TURKMENISTAN ELECTED AS A MEMBER OF THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL COUNCIL OF THE INTERNATIONAL HYDROLOGICAL PROGRAMME OF UNESCO
On November 18, 2021, during the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, Turkmenistan was elected as a member of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme for the period 2021-2025.
The goal of the International Hydrological Programme is to contribute to the development and deepening of knowledge in the field of hydrology, development of modern methods and approaches of research in this field, the development of strategies and policies for sustainable good governance and rational use of water resources of the planet. The scope of activities of the Intergovernmental Council includes planning of the international hydrological program, identification of its priorities, as well as coordination of international cooperation in this direction.
The election of Turkmenistan as a member of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO is another clear confirmation of the state’s efforts to actively participate in international and regional processes on the rational use of water resources, which is consonant with the state programs of our country in the field of environmental and water diplomacy.
