European Parliament delegation get acquainted with the work of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan

The meeting with the deputies of the EU countries led by Vice Chairman of the European Parliament Ryszard Czarnecki, who arrived in our country on a working visit, took place in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the format of a traditional inter-parliamentary dialogue. 

The guests were informed on the key functions and main tasks of the supreme legislative organ in Turkmenistan, its structure and areas of work. 

It was noted that the solid legislative basis was created based on the key areas of the world practices of lawmaking. The on-going work along with the accession to the important UN Conventions contribute to the successful integration of the country into the international legal framework. Neutral Turkmenistan regularly puts forward initiatives aimed at solving important tasks – to ensure global peace, stability and sustainable development. 

The important aspect of the state policy is to protect the interests and rights of a person, confirm the high humanistic ideals and values, and in compliance with the generally recognized legal standards, our country consistently follows the undertaken commitments. 

The meeting participants exchanged the views on the status and prospects for widening inter-parliamentary cooperation as an integral part of the traditional and constructive dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union. 

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the gender policy sphere and protection of physically disabled people. It was noted that Turkmenistan set an example implementing efficient measures to involve women in the socio-political and socio-economic life of the country as well as providing all opportunities for happy life and socialization of people with disabilities. 

Special Representative of the European Union for the Central Asia Peter Burian and EU Lubomir Frebort, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. in Turkmenistan Lubomir Frebort attended the meeting. 

The programme of the visit of the European Parliament delegation to Turkmenistan includes a number of meetings in various ministries, departments and public organisations.
