On March 4, 2019, the seventh training course “Sustainable Development and Governance of the Caspian Sea” began its work in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Enterprise for the Caspian Sea under the President of Turkmenistan, together with the International Ocean Institute (IOI), a partner of the United Nations.
The current seminar is attended by employees of the oil and gas industry, foreign policy agencies, environmental organizations, the transport sector, fisheries organizations, hydro meteorological services and other fields of activity of the Caspian littoral countries.

The current training course consists of four modules - the structure of ocean management, financial mechanisms for sustainable water management, mechanisms for managing ocean relations and the management of the Caspian Sea.
Speaking at the Summit in Aktau, the respected President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that “today all economic activity in the Caspian Sea needs strict scientific support, should be based on a holistic perception of the natural and anthropogenic processes that are taking place, a monitoring and forecasting system. In this regard, it seems expedient to develop a five-sided Agreement on scientific research in the Caspian Sea”.
In connection with this initiative of the Turkmen leader this year, the program of the training course, which will last until March 15, focuses on regional cooperation in the field of marine scientific research.
As part of the training course “Sustainable Development and Governance of the Caspian Sea”, participants will be offered a cultural program, as well as a visit to the Khazar Reserve.
