Turkmen delegation discusses preparations for an International equestrian event and Interregional cooperation with the Governor of Limburg

In Maastricht, a Turkmen delegation headed by Tangryguly Atahallyyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, held a meeting with Emile Roemer, the King’s Commissioner and Governor of the Province of Limburg.

At the beginning of the visit, the Governor introduced the Turkmen delegation to the provincial government building, its history and architectural features. Particular attention was given to the venue where the Maastricht Treaty was signed in 1992, as well as to the copy of this historic document preserved in the building.

During the substantive meeting, the Turkmen side presented in detail the concept, programme and main stages of preparation for the international event scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 September 2026 at the Peelbergen equestrian centre in the province of Limburg.

It was noted that the forthcoming event, to be held at Peelbergen for the first time in this format, is intended to showcase the unique qualities of the world-renowned Akhal-Teke horse, the rich equestrian traditions of Turkmenistan, and to contribute to the further strengthening of cultural and humanitarian ties between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands.

Tangryguly Atahallyyev invited Emile Roemer and members of the provincial administration to attend the forthcoming event as guests of honour.

The Governor of Limburg warmly welcomed and supported the plans for the event and confirmed the readiness of the provincial administration to provide the necessary assistance to ensure its successful organisation at a high level. The parties also discussed protocol and organisational matters, as well as further coordination between the organisers, local authorities and the relevant institutions of the province.

Particular attention was given to the prospects of establishing direct interregional cooperation between the Province of Limburg and one of the velayats of Turkmenistan. It was noted that such a partnership could cover a broad range of areas, including trade, economic and investment cooperation, industry, agriculture, science, education, culture, tourism and the exchange of experience in regional governance.

The parties emphasised that direct contacts between regional administrations, business communities, educational institutions and cultural organisations could provide a practical foundation for joint projects, exchanges of delegations and the development of long-term, mutually beneficial relations.
