Turkmen delegation discusses cooperation in water management and advanced technologies in the Netherlands

As part of its working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a Turkmen delegation headed by Tangryguly Atahallyyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, held meetings with the management of the shipbuilding companies Royal IHC and Damen Shipyards, as well as with Professor Graham Jewitt, Rector and Managing Director of the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The programme also included a visit to Royal IHC’s production facilities in Kinderdijk.

The meetings featured a substantive exchange of views on the prospects for expanding Turkmen-Dutch cooperation in water resource management, the introduction of modern engineering and water-saving technologies, and the exchange of knowledge and advanced expertise in this field.

Particular attention was given to possible cooperation in dredging operations, the modernisation of relevant infrastructure, and the application of advanced technological solutions developed by leading Dutch companies. The parties discussed the potential use of specialised equipment and innovative technologies in projects related to water infrastructure, the maintenance and improvement of waterways, and the enhancement of the efficiency of water management activities.

During the meetings with the management of Royal IHC and Damen Shipyards, the parties considered opportunities to establish direct contacts with the relevant government institutions and enterprises of Turkmenistan. The extensive experience of the Dutch companies in shipbuilding, maritime engineering, dredging, and the development of specialised technical solutions for water and infrastructure projects was particularly highlighted.

The Turkmen side expressed its interest in studying the advanced technologies and practical expertise of its Dutch partners, as well as in identifying specific areas for the implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects.

At the meeting with the leadership of IHE Delft, the discussions focused on cooperation in education, scientific research, professional training, and the sustainable management of water resources. The parties considered the possibility of developing joint educational and research programmes, organising exchanges of specialists, lecturers and researchers, and holding thematic seminars, training courses and scientific events.

Tangryguly Atahallyyev confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to facilitate the establishment of direct contacts between relevant institutes and universities of Turkmenistan and IHE Delft. It was noted that such cooperation could contribute to the introduction of modern water management approaches, the professional development of specialists, and the expansion of scientific and academic ties between the two countries.

Representatives of the Dutch institutions and companies were also invited to attend the forthcoming international events scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 September 2026 at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in the Province of Limburg.

The parties also discussed the possibility of organising joint business events in the Netherlands with the participation of government institutions, business communities and leading companies from Turkmenistan and the Netherlands. It was emphasised that such meetings and business forums could help establish new direct partnerships, present the investment and technological potential of both countries, and develop concrete proposals for the implementation of joint projects.

Following the meetings, the parties expressed their mutual interest in continuing a results-oriented dialogue and further expanding cooperation in the fields of water management, education, science, technology and industry.
