Ambassador Palvanov meets with Spain's Permanent Representative to the EU: Charting a Course for Deeper Partnership
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the European Union Sapar Palvanov held a bilateral meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Spain to the European Union, H.E. Marcos Alonso Alonso. The talks covered current issues on the bilateral agenda as well as prospects for cooperation within the EU institutional framework.
A central focus of the meeting was the practical implementation of the EU-Central Asia Strategic Partnership Concept adopted last year. Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening and updating the legal and contractual framework between the EU and Turkmenistan as a key instrument for translating the Concept's commitments into concrete projects and measurable outcomes.
The talks provided a clear outline of the practical cooperation agenda. Transport and logistics, energy, critical raw materials, and climate were identified by the diplomats as the principal focus of joint efforts. Each reflects both the EU's strategic priorities and Turkmenistan's core interests in diversifying its economy and integrating into global supply chains.
The Turkmen Ambassador proposed establishing a regular, informal dialogue format in Brussels, an open exchange platform bringing together ambassadors from EU member states and Central Asian countries. This format would aim to foster candid discussions on the priority areas of inter-regional cooperation and to monitor the practical implementation of agreements reached between the two regions. The proposal was supported with keen interest.
Turkmenistan attaches great importance to its cooperation with Spain, an active participant in the EU policy toward Central Asia.
