Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov met with Ms. Sylwia Kosinska, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Parliament, in Brussels.

During the substantive exchange, they discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union. Particular attention was given to the importance of maintaining high-level contacts, as well as strengthening the bilateral Turkmenistan–EU track alongside the developing EU–Central Asia regional format.

The parties highlighted Turkmenistan’s responsible approach to the international agenda. As a concrete example, reference was made to the country’s commitment to climate action. Despite being an energy-producing country, Turkmenistan has joined the Global Methane Pledge, demonstrating its readiness to contribute in a practical way to global environmental efforts.

A positive assessment was also given to the inter-parliamentary dialogue held in Brussels in March this year. Its importance as a platform for open and comprehensive discussions, covering areas from economic cooperation to humanitarian issues, was underlined, along with the need to continue and further develop this dialogue.

It was noted that key areas of cooperation between the European Union and Central Asia have now been clearly identified, including energy, transport, critical raw materials, and climate. These priority areas reflect the shared interests of both sides and create a solid basis for moving towards practical implementation of joint initiatives.

In this context, the importance of further developing and modernizing the legal framework of cooperation was emphasized. Strengthening the contractual and legal basis would help create more effective conditions for interaction between institutions and allow both sides to fully realize their potential.

The Ambassador stressed that Turkmenistan views the European Union as a reliable partner, building on the positive experience of successful projects implemented in the country with the participation of European companies and institutions. It was noted that Turkmenistan offers significant resource potential, while the European Union brings advanced technologies, making their cooperation both logical and mutually beneficial.

The parties also underlined the growing role of the region, including Turkmenistan, as a stable and secure transport bridge between Europe and Asia, which further enhances the strategic importance of cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both officials expressed their mutual interest in continuing constructive dialogue and expanding practical cooperation across priority areas.
