Meeting with Charles Michel, Minister of State of Belgium, at the Embassy
Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov welcomed H.E. Charles Michel, Minister of State of Belgium (former President of the European Council and former Prime Minister of Belgium), and his spouse, Mrs. Amélie Derbaudrenghien, at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Brussels.
During the visit, the guests were given a brief introductory tour of the Embassy, where they were presented with elements of Turkmenistan’s rich cultural heritage displayed in the diplomatic mission. Ambassador Palvanov introduced them to the traditions of the Turkmen people, including the renowned art of Turkmen carpet weaving and traditional Turkmen jewelry, which represent important symbols of the country’s national culture.
Following the tour, the parties met to discuss cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union, as well as prospects for further developing bilateral relations with Belgium. It was noted that Turkmenistan has significant potential to expand cooperation with European partners across various areas.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of further strengthening and deepening the legal and institutional framework of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
Ambassador Palvanov emphasized the role played by Charles Michel in strengthening engagement between the European Union and Central Asia, noting his efforts in bringing greater attention within the European Union to the region and in highlighting priority areas of cooperation, particularly in the field of transport connectivity.
The sides also exchanged views on regional developments, noting positively the growing cohesion among the countries of Central Asia and their increasing coordination in addressing regional issues.
Particular attention was given to Turkmenistan’s role as a stable and reliable partner contributing to peace, security, and sustainable development in the region, despite its location in a complex geopolitical environment.
The officials expressed interest in continuing the dialogue and further strengthening cooperation ties.
