Ambassador of Turkmenistan Briefs Members of the European Parliament
In Brussels, Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov delivered a briefing to Members of the European Parliament with the participation of the Delegation for Relations with Central Asia and Mongolia (DCAS). The event was chaired by the Head of the DCAS, Ms. Giuseppina Princi.
During the briefing, the Ambassador focused on the importance of strengthening the legal and contractual framework governing relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union. He underlined that the strategic partnership between the EU and Central Asia should be complemented by deeper and more structured bilateral relations between the EU and each Central Asian country.
In this context, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of maintaining high-level political contacts and ensuring continuity of dialogue across all institutional levels.
Particular attention was given to the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue scheduled to take place in Brussels on 5 March, with the participation of members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The delegations are expected to discuss a broad range of issues, from economic cooperation and transport connectivity to humanitarian matters and parliamentary interaction.
The Ambassador noted that relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union cover a wide spectrum of areas that reflect the mutual interests of both sides. These include economic development, climate cooperation, connectivity, institutional dialogue, and humanitarian engagement.
At the same time, he stressed that in order to fully unlock the existing potential and use the full capacity of cooperation, it is necessary to create a more effective and modern legal platform. According to the Ambassador, a strengthened contractual framework would provide a more comfortable and predictable environment for institutions on both sides to interact, exchange expertise, and implement joint initiatives.
He also highlighted that the international environment is rapidly changing. Global priorities are evolving, and new challenges continue to emerge, from climate change to economic turbulence and geopolitical uncertainty. In this context, enhanced cooperation and closer interaction between Turkmenistan and the European Union are essential to remain resilient and prepared.
The briefing reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to constructive dialogue with the European Parliament and to further developing a forward-looking partnership with the European Union based on mutual respect and shared interests.
