Ambassadors of Central Asian Countries and Mongolia Meet with the President of the Belgian House of Representatives
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan, together with the Ambassadors of Central Asian countries and Mongolia accredited in Brussels, held a meeting with Peter De Roover, President of the Belgian House of Representatives.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Asian countries, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan emphasized that Central Asia today represents a region of strong cohesion, mutual trust, and constructive cooperation. He noted that the countries of the region consistently develop joint approaches on all issues affecting their common interests and strive to find collective solutions to prevent potential conflict situations.
The Ambassador underlined that Central Asia is currently one of the few regions in the world without interstate conflicts. According to him, this has become possible due to the political will of the leaders of the region, their close and sincere cooperation, and a shared sense of responsibility for stability and development.
During the meeting, a substantive exchange of views took place on the development of relations between Belgium and the Central Asian countries, including bilateral cooperation between Belgium and Turkmenistan. The participants noted the growing importance of Central Asia in the current international context, as well as the increasing interest of European countries in deepening engagement with the region.
Special attention was devoted to the development of interparliamentary cooperation. In this context, the possibility of holding a meeting of the parliamentary friendship group between the parliaments of Belgium and Turkmenistan in Belgium in March of this year was discussed, and the importance of giving this format practical substance was emphasized.
The parties also discussed promising areas of cooperation, including transport connectivity, energy, climate, and education. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of developing people-to-people contacts, including links between citizens, educational institutions, youth, and cultural communities, as a key foundation for building sustainable, trust-based, and long-term partnerships between countries.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further developing parliamentary dialogue and expanding cooperation between Belgium and the Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, across a broad range of areas of mutual interest.
