Meeting of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium with the Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Parliament

On April 22, 2025, a meeting took place at the European Parliament between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, and the Diplomatic Adviser to the President of the European Parliament, Ms. Sylwia Kosinska.
During the meeting, the Turkmen diplomat delivered an official invitation letter addressed to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to attend the International Forum on Peace and Trust, scheduled to be held on December 12, 2025, in Ashgabat.
The parties discussed current issues on the international and regional agenda, exchanged views on contemporary geopolitical processes, and emphasized the growing importance of peaceful dialogue and multilateral cooperation amid global challenges.
The meeting also highlighted the increasing engagement between the European Union and the countries of Central Asia. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of developing the legal framework for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the institutions of the European Union, especially in terms of strengthening interparliamentary relations and continuing dialogue on relevant matters.
Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. The Ambassador noted that this coincides with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. He underlined the significance of the upcoming forum in Ashgabat as a platform for promoting the principles of open dialogue and trust between nations.
In turn, Ms. Sylwia Kosinska praised Turkmenistan’s peace-promoting initiatives and expressed interest in further developing interparliamentary cooperation. She reaffirmed the European Parliament’s readiness to continue constructive dialogue with Turkmenistan, including within multilateral frameworks.
The Ambassador also informed that on March 26 of the current year, the Embassy of Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the European Parliament, held the first thematic event dedicated to the policy of neutrality, with the participation of a number of Members of the European Parliament.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their willingness to continue engagement and make joint efforts to further develop fruitful dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
