Yesterday President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, at which the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister R. Meredov reported on the ongoing work in preparation for the official visit to Turkmenistan of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, scheduled for October 20-21.
One of the priorities of foreign policy of the independent neutral Turkmenistan is to strengthen and expand fruitful relations with neighboring countries. Uzbekistan is among them. Turkmenistan is developing mutually beneficial cooperation with this country in a wide range of areas.
Together with the Uzbek side, Turkmenistan has prepared a draft program of the visit that envisages signing a set of bilateral documents.
Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the invariably friendly, good neighborly nature of the Turkmen-Uzbek relations that are based on historical ties and common spiritual and cultural values of the two brotherly peoples. In the modern era, these good traditions, which have developed over the centuries, have received a worthy continuation, constantly enriched with their content.
Developing fruitful cooperation in the bilateral format, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also interact constructively on a multilateral basis, within the UN and other authoritative international and regional organizations, providing each other with mutual support. Regular contacts at the highest, government and departmental levels contribute to comprehensive strengthening of the interstate partnership and effective realization of its considerable multifaceted potential.
In this context, the head of Turkmenistan has instructed the Vice Prime Minister and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the high organizational level of the upcoming official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to our country and the planned activities, noting the importance of regular high-level talks to give a new impetus to the further development of mutually beneficial Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation, which is of strategic nature.
