WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF A WORKING VISIT TO JAPAN, THE DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN HELD A NUMBER OF MEETINGS
On December 23, 2022, in the morning, a delegation of Turkmenistan visited the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where they met with the president of the agency, Akihiko Tanaka.
During the meeting, the importance of training programs in the functioning of JICA was noted, which provide partner countries with the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge based on Japanese experience. The effectiveness of JICA trainings in various areas, such as economics and finance, education, entrepreneurship, natural gas technologies, transport and logistics, and tourism, was emphasized.
In addition, the parties discussed the priorities for the further development of bilateral relations and noted their important role in the prospects for international cooperation, as well as exchanged views on the implementation of projects in Turkmenistan.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan met with Minister Taro Kono at the Ministry of Digital Reforms of Japan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the study of Japan's best practices in the field of digitalization. The Turkmen side noted the interest in joint cooperation with Japanese specialists in the digitalization of the country's healthcare system.
On the same day, in the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Central Asian countries, who arrived to participate in the 9th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Dialogue “Central Asia + Japan”, met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation between Japan and the Central Asian countries in the political, trade and economic fields. It was emphasized that the common intention and commitment to further deepen partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation based on friendship and mutual trust will become a solid basis for the further and progressive development of multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Central Asia + Japan Dialogue.
Within the framework of the meeting of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yasutoshi Nishimura on the same day, the strategic, sustainable and long-term nature of the economic partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan was noted, a striking example of which are the successfully implemented large-scale projects for the construction of enterprises in the oil and gas and gas chemical industries.
The parties discussed the possibility of updating the Roadmap for cooperation in the field of infrastructure in Turkmenistan and supplementing it with new relevant projects.
In addition, the interest of the Turkmen side in studying the Japanese experience in green and hydrogen energy and creating modern high-tech industries focused on the production of competitive products was indicated. Also, attention is paid to attracting small and medium Japanese enterprises to doing business in Turkmenistan and, accordingly, Turkmen - in Japan.
At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of infrastructure was signed between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.
