Dialogue Turkmenistan-EU on human rights issues

On May 17, 2016 the delegation of Turkmenistan attended the regular meeting of the Dialogue "Turkmenistan - EU" in the field of human rights, which was held in Brussels. The Dialogue was attended by representatives of EU institutions such as the European External Action Service, Office of the EU Special Representative for Central Asia and the Directorate General for Development and Cooperation of the European Commission.

During the meeting the sides discussed issues of further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the humanitarian sphere. Also, the cooperation in such areas as constitutional reform and improvement of the ombudsman legislation, taking into account the generally recognized norms of international law; national institutions for the protection of human rights was the topic of discussion. In addition, during the dialogue the parties discussed issues of cooperation within international organizations and joint projects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the field of human rights.

The EU delegation welcomed the adoption by Turkmenistan of the National Action Plan for Human Rights in the years of 2016-2020, and expressed willingness to jointly cooperate in this direction.
