A ROUND TABLE DEDICATED TO THE RESULTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF PEACE AND TRUST WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN

Today, on December 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a round table dedicated to the results of the expanded meeting of the Government of Turkmenistan held on December 10, as well as the International Conference «Peace and Trust Policy – Basis of International Security, Stability and Development» held in the Turkmen capital on December 11, 2021.

The meeting was attended by the heads and staff of the Foreign Ministry, as well as the heads of the diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan accredited abroad.

The participants focused on the final document adopted on the results of the International Forum of Peace and Trust.

As is known, the participants of the Ashgabat High-Level Forum supported the proposal of the President of Turkmenistan to promote the Global Initiative «Dialogue - Guarantee of Peace» by adopting the final document.  This initiative aims to unite the efforts of the international community in strengthening the traditions of peaceful and trustful coexistence of the peoples of the world, comprehensive establishment of a culture of peace and trust in international relations.

The participants also emphasized the importance of the call to the UN Secretary General and UN member states to continue the practice of global campaigns to promote a culture of peace, where it was proposed to announce a Global Decade for a Culture of Peace and Trust for the years 2023-2032 at the level of the UN General Assembly.

In addition, it was expressed the need to create mechanisms to ensure the participation of young people in the promotion of a culture of peace, in order to deepen young people's understanding of the values of peace, trust, tolerance, openness, inclusiveness and mutual respect.

As stated, the development of a culture of peace and trust between states is inextricably linked to the policy of neutrality as a value that contributes to sustainable development, peace and security by strengthening solidarity and harmony. And in this regard it was recommended to use the full potential of neutral states in promoting a culture of peace and trust, peaceful settlement of disputes, conflict prevention and resolution.

Speakers underlined that by adopting the final document and expressing full support to the ideas voiced, participants of the Forum called upon all member states of the United Nations and other entities of international life to hold annual events to mark the International Neutrality Day on December 12 aimed at raising awareness of the role and importance of the neutrality policy in maintaining and strengthening international peace, security and sustainable development.

Citing the words of the President of Turkmenistan, the participants noted that under such conditions only the restoration of trust, adherence to the generally accepted international legal norms, and recognition of the culture of mutual relations will make it possible to correct the existing situation and direct it into an effective direction.

Thematic meetings on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan with the participation of heads of diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan accredited abroad in honor of the International Year of Peace and Trust will continue until the end of this year.
