New Music Video Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Makhtumkuli: Turkmenistan in the Heart of Europe
In honor of the 300th anniversary of the Turkmen thinker Magtymguly Pyragy, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Kingdom of Belgium hosted a grand presentation of a music video. The video, filmed with the embassy's support in famous locations around Brussels and the embassy itself, features a rap song about Turkmenistan performed by a young Belgian artist named Toni.
The event gathered representatives from European media, EU institutions, think tanks, ambassadors from friendly countries, and other guests. In his speech, Ambassador Sapar Palvanov highlighted the significance of Magtymguly Pyragy for Turkmen culture, his influence on national identity and the spiritual values of the people, as well as the worldwide recognition of his work. He quoted a verse from Magtymguly's poem "Better" and announced that Tony, inspired by Turkmen culture, plans to create a song based on the poet's works with the support of the Turkmen Embassy.
Independent researcher on the ecology and history of Central Asia, Derya Soysal, also spoke at the event. She emphasized Makhtumkuli Fraghi's authority not only for the Turkmen people but for the world. She noted that Makhtumkuli's works focus on moral education, friendship, peace, and self-development. Derya Soysal read the following lines from his work in Turkmen: "Magtymguly, owal özüň düzetgil, Özüňi sen özgelere göz etgil," which call for self-improvement and being a role model for others.
Attendees were shown the music video for the song "Turkmenistan Dreams." Afterwards, guests were treated to Turkmen national cuisine. During the tasting, Tony performed the song with Turkmen flair, wearing a telpek and holding a dutar.
The song, with lyrics written by embassy diplomat Maral Rahymova, is an ode to Turkmenistan, highlighting its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and the spirit of its people. It describes a journey through Turkmenistan, its historical significance on the Silk Road, and the wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy, which serves as a guide. Turkmenistan is celebrated as a country with friendly people, ancient heritage, UNESCO-listed historical cities, and majestic carpets, an integral part of its culture. The song mentions the sandy dunes of Karakum and the breeze of the Caspian Sea, creating a tranquil atmosphere. The song praises the beauty and uniqueness of Turkmenistan.
